Burghley House

Today we went to a house not like any other.
It is a grand 16th century country house located in Stamford. Burghley was built for Sir William Cecil , later 1st Baron Burghley . It was subsequently the residence of his descendants. Since 1961,it has been owned by a charitable trust established by the family who  still live there .
The Burghley house is full of interesting rooms and wonderful painted ceilings .

The old kitchen

The chapel

Ceiling of the second George room

Queen Elizabeth 's bedroom

The heaven room

Although some of the paintings are a bit dark like the Hell Staircase they are wonderful pieces of art .

This is where Lord Burghley lived he won the 400 metres hurdles in the 1928 Olympics .

Ps. The house was also a feature in the film Da Vinci's code.
